“Whoops!” by Maggie Lee

A vomit-sculpture-thing I made on Friday for the YouthDesign interview. I thought I needed a little something extra to add to my portfolio, so here it is. They really liked it (I think). I’ve actually had this idea stuck in my head since April break, so I finally buckled down and spent all Friday night to make it! I found this baggy of soda can tabs on my desk a while back and didn’t want to throw them away so I decided to make some “recycled art,” I guess. This is also my first personal attempt at 3-D art, and I kind of really like how it came out. Everything (besides the board, which I found in Mr. Harris’s room) used to make this was found on my desk. 

I wanted this piece to show how the world was created by accident (the dropped candy tin), how everything spilled out (soda can tabs) and how we grew to the people we are today (the tall staple buildings). My favorite part of the whole thing is definitely the lid of the candy tin, which was the hardest thing to keep in place (I used my mom’s pill containers to keep it up).

…And I want to make more.
